'Gangster' Neela, accomplices booked in Moga firing incident

The police have booked Lawrence Bishnoi’s bête noire ‘gangster’ Jatinder Kumar, alias Neela, and his associates on the allegations of attempt to murder outside the district court complex in Moga on Tuesday.

The gang members of Lawrence Bishnoi had unsuccessfully attempted to kill Neela in Moga last year. Bishnoi was himself nominated in this case.

The Moga police would likely to bring Lawrence Bishnoi on production warrants here in the ongoing investigation of the attack on Neela and his family members.

Lawrence Bishnoi allegedly sent two gangsters Monu Dagar and Jodhajit Singh to kill Neela, the younger brother of Ashok Dhamij, Deputy Mayor, Moga. Neela is facing trials in many criminal cases of heinous crimes. However, he was presently out of jail on bail for the past many months.

Monu Dagar originally hailing from Sonipat district of Haryana was also involved in the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala and presently under judicial custody at Faridkot jail. He was brought on production warrants by the Moga police a few days ago.

Monu came all the way from Lucknow to Moga to kill Neela but missed the target. Neela’s relatives Sunil Kumar Dhamija and his son Pratham Kumar came forward to protect him. Thus, Neela narrowly escaped the bid on his life.

Monu and Jodhajit fired shots at them. Pratham received a bullet injury on his leg while his father was hit on the head with pistol’s butt. “Now, Bishnoi will be formally arrested in this case,” claimed Gulneet Singh Khurana, Senior Superintendent of Police, Moga district.

As far as yesterday’s incident of firing outside district courts is concerned, the police registered a criminal case under Sections 307, 336, 148 and 149, IPC, and Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59, Arms Act, at the City-I police station here against Jatinder Kumar, alias Neela, and 16 others, including many of his associates. However, he was yet to be arrested by the police. He was on the run, said a local police officer.

At least, 17 persons of two groups had come here at the sessions’ court in the hearing of an attempt to murder case. In the parking lot, they argued with each other. One of the group members fired shots on their rivals from automatic weapons creating a panic in the area. No one was injured in the incident. Before the police could reach the spot, they all ran away.

As many as 17 persons of two groups had come to the sessions court for a hearing in an attempt-to-murder case. In the parking lot, they argued with each other. One of the group members fired shots at their rivals from automatic weapons, creating a panic in the area. No one was injured in the incident. Before the police arrived, all fled.
