Gangsters will be nailed: AAP’s Sandhu after win

Winning Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Harmeet Singh Sandhu credited his victory to the party’s policies and the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, saying the people of Majha had delivered a decisive mandate for honest governance and peace.

When asked about AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal’s “guarantee” to end gangsterism within seven days of the bypoll win, Sandhu, speaking in chaste Majhail accent, responded, “Gangster? Thoka ge k”.

Sandhu said the people of Majha had shown remarkable courage “in the face of intimidation”. “The brave people of Majha were not afraid of the gangsters who threatened them and asked them to vote for SAD. Instead, they stood with the truth and voted for AAP,” he said. The newly elected MLA assured people that the party would deliver on every promise made during the campaign. “We will start working immediately. All commitments, including a college for girls, a flyover at the railway crossing and end to gangster raj, will be fulfilled soon,” he said. Sandhu expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him. “People have reposed faith in me, in my party and in my government. I will not let them down,” he said. Responding to allegations that AAP had misused government machinery, Sandhu countered that it was, in fact, other parties that resorted to intimidation.

“They tried to pressure voters and sarpanches. They even distributed goods and money from the golak of gurdwaras. On polling day, people received threatening calls,” he said, adding that AAP had sought votes solely on the basis of its performance.

Sandhu added that he would soon submit a detailed report outlining the development needs of the constituency to the government and ensure that all works were initiated without delay.
