Patiala, July 18

The administration of Government Rajindra Hospital was caught on the wrong foot when Health Minister Chetan Singh Jouramajra, who visited the health facility today, found heaps of garbage on the first floor of the emergency ward.

He visited the hospital to participate in a blood donation camp. Unhappy that the toilets in the hospital’s old building were stinking, the minister didn’t mince his words and reportedly scolded officials for the lack of cleanliness.

Offenders will face music

During my last week’s visit to Rajindra hospital, I had directed the authorities to clean the premises. They did not take my word seriously. If the situation doesn’t improve, officials will face the music. —Chetan Singh Jouramajra, Health minister

“During my last week’s visit to the hospital, I had directed the authorities to clean the premises. They did not take my word seriously. If the situation doesn’t improve, officials will face the music,” Jouramajra told The Tribune.

Sources say the minister directed the hospitals officials to step out of their offices and inspect the hospital regularly.

“Health and education are Aam Aadmi Party’s priorities. Surprise checks at government hospitals will continue across the state,” said the minister. After having visiting Rajindra hospital, Jouramajra went for a surprise visit to Government Mata Kaushalya Hospital here. He visited various departments and interacted with patients and their attendants.

The minister also visited the office of the Health Department, which is on the premises of the Mata Kaushalya hospital. He checked the attendance register and found that many health officials had not marked their attendance as they were late to work.
