Garden with trees mentioned in Guru Granth Sahib opened in Moga

A first-of-its-kind garden — Guru Granth Sahib Bagh — has been set up at historic Patto Hira Singh village of Moga district by a local NGO to highlight the message of Sikh Gurus to connect with nature as conveyed in Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of Sikhs.

The garden has a plantation of more than 58 species, which are mentioned in the holy book. ‘Panj Pyaras’ in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Hans, Akal Takht former Jathedar Prof Manjit Singh, Punjab Arts Council chairman Dr Surjit Patar and others inaugurated the garden on Monday.

Addressing a brief function at Gurdwara Gurusar Sahib, the DC expressed happiness over the efforts of many leading organisations in conserving environment. He assured that the district administration would extend all possible support to those who contribute in preserving local biodiversity.

Hans said the Niti Aayog had set a target of planting 100 crore saplings in 112 districts of the country, including Moga. The district administration has started planting trees under the project from this monsoon. He said though the target was huge, the district administration was making efforts to achieve it.
