The Ghaggar water inundated at least four Patiala villages on Saturday, damaging standing crop on several acres.
The affected villages were Kami Khurd, Chamaru, Sarala and Untsar in Ghanaur subdivision.
This comes a day after the district administration sounded the alert after the water level in the rain-fed river increased following heavy rainfall in its catchment Shivalik area in the past two days.
Meanwhile, the administration has urged residents to stay away from riverbanks.
Earlier in the day, Deputy Commissioner Preeti Yadav had said that situation in Ghanaur villages was being closely monitored.
Yadav urged residents not to pay heed to rumours. “People should rely only on information issued by government authorities or contact the district flood control room at 0175-2350550 or 2358550,” she said.
