Calling for equitable recognition across India’s teaching fraternity, Rajya Sabha MP Satnam Singh Sandhu on Tuesday demanded that teachers serving in private schools and institutions should be honoured at the national level on a par with government educators.Raising the matter during the zero hour in the Winter Session of Parliament, Sandhu said despite their decisive role in uplifting Indian education and boosting global rankings, the contribution of private school teachers had not received due recognition all these years.Sandhu stressed that teachers, regardless of whether they belonged to government or private institutions, were the pivotal force behind Viksit Bharat, adding that their work was crucial to advancing research, shaping young minds and driving India’s transformation into a global academic power.

Sandhu argued that national honours for educators remained limited to those serving in government institutions and, therefore, failed to reflect the current structure and achievements of India’s school education system.
