Miscreants won’t succeed: Speaker

Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan strongly condemned the bomb threat at Golden Temple and said miscreants would not succeed in their ill intentions. He assured people that those who had issued the threat would be arrested soon.

The emails were sent from fake email IDs of Kerala CM and a former CJI. Terming the threatening emails as a matter of grave concern, Dhami said the identity of the sender was unknown even as the government and the police administration had been informed about these emails. It should be investigated whether the threats were simply a mischief or part of a larger conspiracy, Dhami said, adding that it might be another attempt to create fear among the large number of devotees who visit the shrine daily to pay obeisance. He appealed to the devotees not to be fearful while coming to the shrine.

Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring termed the threats as an attempt to instil fear among people.

Meanwhile, BSF personnel joined Punjab cops deployed outside the Golden Temple and searched the shrine’s periphery. Inside the shrine, the SGPC Task Force checked the belongings of devotees.

Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the police were in touch with the SGPC and the security at the Golden Temple was reviewed. The contents of emails pointed towards southern states, he informed.
