Governor to confer medals on 24 personnel at R-Day celebrations
The Punjab Raj Bhavan on Saturday announced the names of 24 police personnel who will be honoured for their distinguished service during the Republic Day celebrations by Governor Gulab Chand Kataria tomorrow.
The awardees include four personnel of the Hoshiarpur’s Jaijon police post who have been selected for the Rakshak Padak for saving the life of a man after his car overturned and swept away in a canal in August last year.
A police party including ASI Manna Singh, ASI Rajinder Singh, Senior Constable Kulwinder Kaur and Home Guard personnel Gurdeep Singh led the rescue mission.
Senior Constable Gurpreet Singh of the Ludhiana CID unit has also been chosen for the Rakshak Padak as he saved a man’s life by pulling him out of the Sirhind Canal after he attempted to commit suicide following a verbal spat with his wife on August 29, 2024.
Eight police officers, including Sangrur SP Navreet Singh Virk, Faridkot SP (Investigation) Jasmeet Singh, Gurdaspur SP (Headquarters) Jugraj Singh, Commandant 4th Commando Battalion Parampal Singh, Joint Director Vigilance Bureau Digvijay Kapil, AIG Counter Intelligence (Bathinda) Avneet Kaur Sidhu, SP Detective (Amritsar Rural) Harinder Singh and DSP (Law and Order) Samar Pal Sigh are among 19 officers selected for the Chief Minister’s Medal for Outstanding Devotion to Duty.
The other police personnel to be awarded for devoting to duty are Inspectors Pran Nath, Pritpal Singh, Sukhmandar Singh, Manphul Singh; Sub-Inspectors Rajesh Kumar, Parminder Singh, Jugal Kishore Sharma, Sumeet Aery; Assistant Sub-Inspector Harpal Singh; Head Constable Mukhjit Singh and Constable Simranjit Singh.
