Govt award for three Malerkotla schools acts as catalyst for others

Punjab Government’s initiative to recognise outstandingly performing schools in various categories with the ‘best school awards’ seems to have acted as catalyst for as many as 94 state-run schools of this district to strive hard for similar achievement in future.

Rs 5.17 cr for 69 schools

Achievements in curricular and extra-curricular fields, performance of teachers and standard of infrastructure have been identified as basic parameters. Award money worth Rs 5.17 crore was distributed among 69 government schools of the state.

3 schools from malerkotla

Government Senior Secondary School in Lasoi village, Government High School in Nangal village and Government Middle School in Qila Rehmatgarh were felicitated with best school awards. The schools received Rs 10 lakh, Rs 7.5 lakh and Rs 5 lakh as special grants

Heads at government aided private schools have also urged the government to consider their institutes for such recognitions.

Achievements in curricular and extra-curricular fields, performance of teachers and standard of infrastructure have been identified as basic parameters for improvement as evaluation of these avenues have fetched the best school award to three schools of the district recently. Award money worth Rs 5.17 crore was distributed among 69 government schools of the state.

Preety Singla, principal, Government Senior Secondary School Lasoi village; Ramanveer Kaur, headmistress Government High School Nangal village; and Lakhwinder Kaur, headmistress Government Middle School Qila Rehmatgarh were felicitated with the awards for their respective schools by Education Minister Harjot Bains during a function held at Amritsar recently. Besides receiving a citation, the schools received Rs 10 lakh, Rs 7.5 lakh and Rs 5 lakh as special grants for further upgradation of infrastructure.

District Education Officer (Secondary) Jaswinder Kaur Grewal appreciated that the initiative taken by the state government had acted as a trigger among students and staff of almost all the government schools of the district for improvement in various fields.

Mohammad Asrar, principal at Islamia Kamboj School, Malerkotla, said heads and staff at private aided schools were also enthusiastic about the competition. “We have also asked the management committee of our school to impress upon the Punjab Government for considering our institute for such competitions, even though within a separate category,” he added.

DC Pallavi had announced that the awardees would be felicitated by the district administration and every help would be extended to heads who wish to further improve their performance in various avenues.
