Chandigarh: The state government has declared Bhagwan Parshuram Jayanti on April 26 as a gazetted holiday. Sabha leaders have been demanding a holiday on Parshuram Jayanti since 2017. The Congress government had cut a number of holidays, including Parshuram Jayanti, after taking over from the SAD-BJP government. Dr Vikram Sharma, president, Dargesh Sharma, working president, and Behari Lal Saddi, general secretary, of the Brahman Sabha, thanked the government for this decision. tns

Markfed signs deal with Hindustan Unilever Ltd

Chandigarh: Markfed has entered into an agreement with Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (HUL) for the supply of fast moving consumer goods. Varun Roojam, IAS Managing Director, Markfed, and an officer of Hindustan Unilever Ltd. signed the agreement here on Monday. This will ensure the availability of all Markfed products at retail outlets shortly, said a government spokesperson. TNS

SDO booked for sending obscene video to woman

Muktsar: The Gidderbaha police on Sunday booked an SDO of the Water Supply Department for allegedly sending an obscene video to a woman of Daula village here. The accused, Gurpreet Singh Dhillon, is currently posted at Ludhiana. He is, however, yet to be arrested. TNS

Fazilka student dies in road accident

Fazilka: Student Sukhwinder Singh (17), a resident of Chack Hamid Saidoke village, was killed a in road accident. Sukhwinder Singh’s father Sucha Singh said his son was going on a bicycle from a village to the ITI, Jalalabad, when he was hit by a tractor-trailer coming from the opposite direction. Sukhwinder was shifted to the Civil Hospital from where he was referred to the medical college in Faridkot where he died. OC
