Chandigarh, June 4
The state government has extended the registration date for admission in meritorious schools for session 2020-21 in Class XI.
The decision has been taken in compliance with the instructions of the Government of India and the state government regarding security from Covid-19.
A spokesperson for the Punjab School Education Department said online registration would restart for admission in meritorious schools in Amritsar, Bathinda, Ferozepur, Gurdaspur, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Mohali, Patiala, Sangrur and Talwara (Hoshiarpur) from 9 am on June 5 to 5 pm on June 15. Students could submit their forms for admission in Class IX in meritorious school (Talwara) from 9 am on June 5 to 5 pm on June 15.
The spokesperson said the Punjab School Education Board had made some changes in the eligibility criteria for registration for the Class XI entrance examination. Earlier, general category students would need 70 per cent marks in Class X and reserve category students 65 per cent marks to be eligible to sit for the entrance. However, now, general category students with grade B+ or above and reserve category students with grade B were eligible.
In CBSE-affiliated schools, Class X general category students with B1 grade or above and reserve category students with grade B2 or above will be eligible to apply for admission.
The eligibility criteria will remain the same for Class VIII passouts to register for the entrance examination for Class IX.
The department has also clarified that the students who have already applied for admission and meet the existing requirements for admission need not reapply.
