Chandigarh, August 2

The All-India Kisan Congress chief, Sukhpal Khaira, today slammed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for failing to provide minimum support price (MSP) to the farmers for growing pulses.

CM should intervene

  • CLP leader Partap Singh Bajwa on Tuesday sought intervention of the CM to compensate the farmers who sold moong crop below the MSP of Rs 7,275 per quintal
  • Bajwa said 86 per cent of the moong crop was procured by private players between Rs 5,000 and Rs 6,500 per quintal

Though the government had been laying emphasis on crop diversification, it failed to come out in support of the farmers who had cultivated moong crop, he said.

While praising the farmers for producing record quantity of moong in the state, Khaira expressed concern over private players procuring big chunk of the produce.

He said Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann failed to procure moong crop on the MSP. Of 4 lakh quintals of moong produced, over 85 per cent had been purchased by private players below the MSP.

“The AAP government has cheated farmers. We will not remain a mute spectator,” said Khaira.
