The Local Government Department has simplified the procedure of grant of change of land use (CLU) and approval of layout and building plans.

About it

  • The competent authority will have to take technical advice from their senior town planner for residential and industrial project of up to 25 acres and commercial projects of up to 2 acres
  • For commercial projects above 2 acres, the chief town planner at the local government headquarters will give the technical advice

On the pattern of the Punjab Housing and Urban Development, the department has designated the Commissioners in the respective Municipal Corporations and the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Urban Development) in other urban bodies as the competent authority for the grant of CLU and give licence to develop a colony.

The competent authority will have to take technical advice from their senior town planner (STP) for residential and industrial project of up to 25 acres and commercial projects of up to 2 acres. For commercial projects above 2 acres, chief town planner (CTP) at the local government headquarters would give the technical advice.

For layout plans, the municipal Commissioner concerned or the executive officer concerned for the municipal council or nagar panchayat have been designated as the competent authority.

Local Bodies Minister Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjer said the procedure has been simplified to facilitate the general public.

Except for the cases of group housing and multiplex buildings that are referred to the chief town planner, cases of hospitals/ nursing homes, marriage palaces, hotels, group housing, multiplex and shopping complexes above 500 square yards will not be referred to the CTP.

The technical advice to the competent authority concerned would be given the senior town plannerconcerned.
