Directions in this regard have been sent to all deputy commissioners in the state on Monday. They have been told to form district-level committees to rehire retired patwaris and kanungos, who have not yet attained 64 years of age. The permission to rehire has been taken from the state Finance Department.

Meanwhile, many revenue officials said the government should offer regular jobs to youngsters rather than rehiring retired persons. Official sources said as many as 1,766 retired revenue officials were to be rehired and they would get a salary of Rs 25,000 each. — TNS
