Fazilka MLA Narinderpal Singh Sawna laid the foundation stone for the installation of a 200-feet-high national flag at the Sadiqi Border outpost in the Fazilka sector on Republic Day. The project, approved by the state government, will cost Rs 75 lakh and is expected to be completed within four months, according to Sawna.

BSF DIG Vijay Kumar and 55 Battalion Commandant K. N. Tripathi were present during the foundation-laying ceremony. The land for the flag installation had been previously consecrated with a bhoomi poojan in August of this year.

The installation of the new flag comes in response to strong demands from hundreds of visitors who visit the Sadiqi border daily. The site, where a joint retreat ceremony is held by the Border Security Force and Pakistani Rangers, has long been criticised for displaying an outdated, smaller Indian flag compared to the larger, 170-foot Pakistan flag on the opposite side. The new flag will stand taller, symbolising India's national pride and strength.
