Growers burn Centre’s effigy to press for demands
Activists of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) and Techinal Services Union (TSU) of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) held a protest during a bandh in Abohar.
The demonstration included a sit-in (dharna) outside the PSPCL divisional office and a protest rally through the main roads of the city.
The protestors burnt an effigy of the Union Government, accusing it of adopting anti-farmer
policies.
TSU leader Sukhwant Singh demanded to implement the minimum support price (MSP).
He emphasised that it was not only important for the welfare of farmers but all sections of society.
He warned that if
the Central Government procurement ceased, the public distribution system could be severely
affected.
BKU Ugrahan Block Abohar president Jagtar Singh also condemned the government’s move to introduce agricultural draft bills through covert means.
He vowed that such attempts to undermine the farming community would be resisted.
