Sunny, along with his brother-in-law Gurpreet Singh, had come to the sessions court to appear in a hearing of an attempt-to-murder case registered against him and others in the year 2017.

As soon as they parked their car, a group of eight persons, who came in two vehicles, started firing allegedly from automatic weapons.

Sunny and Gurpreet somehow managed to escape from the spot and entered the court complex. Eyewitnesses said they heard the sound of over 10 rounds fired from automatic weapons. Preliminary investigations revealed that both groups had come to the sessions court for a hearing. One of the groups was exerting pressure on the other to strike a compromise, which led to the incident.

Though police officials claimed that the firing was a result of personal rivalry among the two groups, it has been learnt that some gangsters were also involved in the shooting.

On the basis of information provided by Sunny and Gurpreet, at least four shooters have been identified. A vehicle was also impounded by the police. No arrests have been made so far.
