The Punjab and Haryana High Court today asked the state to clarify its stand on a regular bail petition filed by former health minister Vijay Singla. He was arrested by the police in a corruption case.

As the case came up for resumed hearing, Justice Lisa Gill asked the state to specify whether it was opposing the petition, following which the state sought time to respond to the query. The case would now come up for further hearing on July 8. In the petition filed and argued by senior advocate Vinod Ghai with Kanika Ahuja, Kirti Ahuja and Edward Augustine George, Singla had submitted that he was arraigned as an accused in the FIR because his political opponents wanted to tarnish his image.
