HC notice to state on plea of Dappar toll plaza firm

The Punjab and Haryana High Court today issued a notice of motion to the Punjab Government and the state DGP on a plea filed by the concessionaire of the Dappar toll plaza against the obstruction of their operations by protesting farmers.

Taking up the petition filed by GMR Ambala Chandigarh Expressways Pvt Ltd through counsel Atul Sharma and Nitin Thatai, a Division Bench of Justice Sanjay Kumar and Justice Archana Puri also fixed February 24 as the next date of hearing in the matter.

The petitioner-company was seeking directions for restoring law and order in and around the toll plaza and provision of security to the company employees there.

Directions were also sought to remove obstruction or interference by unauthorised persons in the legitimate business activities of the company and to ensure maintenance of a safe and secure environment for collection of toll in accordance with the agreement.

The petitioner-company was awarded the contract for improvement, operation, maintenance and widening of the existing two-lane to four-lane dual carriageways on the Ambala-Chandigarh section of the National Highway No. 22 in Haryana and Punjab on build, operate and transfer basis. — TNS
