The Punjab and Haryana High Court today suspended the sentence of an accused in the Kathua rape case. Tilak Raj, a head constable with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, was convicted and sentenced to five year imprisonment for destruction of evidence.

The Division Bench of Justice Tejinder Singh Dhindsa and Justice Vinod S Bhardwaj ordered the suspension of sentence after hearing Raj’s plea. One of the grounds taken by him was that he had already undergone three out of the total sentence of five years. A Pathankot court had convicted six of the seven accused in the rape and murder case.
