A high-stakes tussle between Punjab Police and Chandigarh Police over the custody of Navneet Chaturvedi, accused of forging signatures in Rajya Sabha nomination papers, has now reached the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Both Chaturvedi and the Punjab Police have filed petitions in court. While Chaturvedi has alleged that Punjab Police attempted to abduct him from a Chandigarh police station, Punjab Police have sought directions to stop Chandigarh authorities from interfering in the execution of valid arrest warrants.

The dispute stems from an incident on Tuesday when Punjab and Chandigarh police officials engaged in a scuffle over Chaturvedi’s custody.

The Punjab Police, armed with an arrest warrant issued by a Rupnagar court, tried to detain Chaturvedi in connection with an FIR related to alleged forgery of AAP MLAs’ signatures on Rajya Sabha nomination papers.

However, the Chandigarh Police did not hand over Chaturvedi, citing legal procedures and reportedly moved him to Sector 3 Police Station.

A video of the confrontation later went viral on social media.

Chaturvedi has claimed that multiple FIRs have been lodged against him without due process and that Punjab Police attempted to forcibly take him despite the Chandigarh Police's presence.

The High Court has agreed to hear both petitions today, amid rising political tensions and accusations between the involved parties.
