The Health Department has initiated a probe into the death of a patient at the Malerkotla Civil Hospital following a caesarean delivery.
Relatives of the woman, Amandeep Kaur, have alleged negligence on the part of the doctor who operated upon her on Thursday. The woman died on Saturday.
The woman patient was shifted to Patiala’s Rajindra Hospital after her condition worsened following the procedure.
Following her death at the Patiala hospital, her relatives, led by trade union leader Zora Singh Cheema, held a protest in front of the Malerkotla Civil Hospital.
Accusing gynaecologist Neha Garg of negligence, the protesters demanded her immediate suspension and the registration of a criminal case against her.
The doctor denied the charge, saying the patient was shifted to Rajindra Hospital for further management of complications following an acute fall in her platelet count.
SMO Jagjit Singh said the department had initiated the probe and the deceased woman’s autopsy had already been conducted.
The SMo said a committee of doctors, constituted by the Civil Surgeon, will investigate the sequence of events, which led to the patient’s death at the Patiala hospital.
