Health Director apprised of vacant posts at civil hospital
Dr Anil Goyal, Director of the Health Department, Punjab, visited the 100-bed Civil Hospital in Abohar today and was reminded of the vacant posts of Gynaecologists, Paediatricians, Anaesthesia specialists, and an Orthopaedician.
Despite repeated reminders from the district administration to the state headquarters, these positions remain unfilled. The issue has also been raised by local MLA Sandeep Jakhar and former MLA Arun Narang before the respective Health Ministers.
During his visit, Dr. Lehimber Ram, Civil Surgeon of Fazilka, and Dr. Neerja Gupta, Senior Medical Officer, briefed the Director on the hospital’s operations. Dr. Goyal toured various sections of the hospital, including the X-ray room, laboratory, dispensary, wards, and operation theatre.
He expressed satisfaction with the cleanliness and overall services, noting that Abohar Civil Hospital is one of only 5-7 hospitals in Punjab offering quality services.
Upon his arrival, Dr. Goyal was presented with a bouquet, which he promptly passed on to the sanitation staff, commending them for their work.
A minor issue with the blood bank refrigerator was detected, and the Director instructed immediate rectification. He also took note of the long queues at the dispensary counter and ordered the appointment of additional staff to address the problem.
While inspecting the hospital canteen, Dr. Goyal found drinks being sold past their expiry dates. He ordered these items to be discarded and imposed a ban on the sale of “sting cold drinks.” Furthermore, he directed the hospital to replace domestic LPG cylinders with commercial ones to ensure better safety and efficiency.
