Health, police departments seize 18 quintals of suspected adulterated sweets in Faridkot

In a crackdown on food adulteration, the Health Department and police administration in Faridkot jointly raided a local sweets manufacturing unit and seized around 18 quintals and 50 kilograms (1,850 kg) of sweets suspected to be adulterated.

The raid was conducted following a tip-off received by the authorities.

According to officials, the seized stock included approximately 14.5 quintals of ‘patisa’, 180 kilograms of ‘barfi’ and about 1 quintal 20 kilograms of milk cake. All the sweets were immediately sealed on the spot and four samples were collected for laboratory testing.

During the inspection, officials observed serious lapses in hygiene and cleanliness inside the unit. The preparation and storage conditions were found to be substandard, prompting authorities to issue a challan under Section 56(A) of the Food Safety Act.

The report has been sent to the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) for further action.

Additionally, the factory was found using packaging boxes printed with company brand names, but without mentioning the name of the actual manufacturing unit, a clear violation of labelling norms.

Officials confirmed that further legal proceedings will be initiated against the factory based on the results of the food sample analysis, under the provisions of the Food Safety Act.
