Home guard dies of mysterious gunshot at Samana

A 58-year-old home guard died due to a gunshot injury in the chest under mysterious circumstances at the Samana police station on Monday.
Deceased Amarjeet Singh was due to retire in two months. According to reports, the Samana police rushed him to the local Civil Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
After a post-mortem examination, his body was handed over to his family members.
DSP Neha Aggarwal said Amarjeet had gone to the malkhana (storeroom) to return a weapon of a resident that was deposited in the police station during election time.
Suddenly, a gunshot was heard from the malkhana, prompting police personnel to rush to the scene. They found Amarjeet lying with a gunshot wound. Neha said a probe had been initiated. A preliminary probe revealed that the shot was fired form Amarjeet’s service weapon.
