House of drug trafficker razed in Sangrur
A joint team of the Sangrur district administration and the police on Tuesday demolished an “illegally constructed” house-cum-shop of an alleged drug peddler at the Sunam grain market, an officer said.
The action was taken under the state government’s drive against the drug menace.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sartaj Singh Chahal said the district police was committed to completely wipe out the drug menace.
He said accused Budh Singh, alias Budhu, had illegally occupied the land to build the structure, which was being used for drug peddling.
The officer said several cases had already been registered against him by the police under the NDPS Act and the Excise Act.
580 locations raided statewide
The Punjab Police on Tuesday conducted raids on 580 locations, leading to the arrest of 110 drug peddlers after registration of 68 FIRs
The police teams seized 2.8 kg heroin, 500 grams of opium, 10,904 intoxicating pills and Rs 2.88 lakh in drug money from their possession
Special DGP Arpit Shukla said 220 teams, comprising over 1,600 cops, under the supervision of 107 gazetted officers conducted raids across the state
