Hundreds pay last respects to DAV leader Dev Mittar Ahuja

Hundreds of people gathered on Monday to pay their last respects to Dev Mittar Ahuja, the Vice President of the DAV Colleges Management Committee, Delhi, who passed away at the age of 87.

Ahuja was also the president of three local DAV organizations, and his death has left a deep void in the community.

The funeral took place at the Nanaksar Shiv Bhoomi (cremation ground), where prominent figures from various walks of life paid their tributes. Former Deputy Commissioner and patron of the Punjab Archery Association, Kulbir Singh Kang, led the wreath-laying ceremony.

He was followed by MLA Sandeep Jakhar, former MLAs Arun Narang and Dr. Mohinder Rinwa, Mayor Vimal Thatai, Gaushala president Fakir Chand Goyal, and Khatri Arora Punjabi Community president Naresh Khurana, among others. Members of several local social organisations from Abohar, Fazilka, Malout, and Muktsar also participated in the ceremony. Ahuja’s son, Atul Ahuja, lit the funeral pyre.

Ahuja, the son of Rai Sahib Kundan Lal Ahuja, a former member of the Punjab Legislative Council and 10-time president of the local Municipal Committee, was an influential figure in Abohar’s civic and educational landscape. He himself served as a member of the Municipal Council and Improvement Trust and was deeply involved in numerous non-government organisations.

His contributions to the establishment and growth of the Gopichand Arya Mahila College and local DAV institutions are especially noteworthy, having played a pivotal role for over five decades.
