The Indian Air Force (IAF) has agreed to the Punjab Government’s request to display iconic MiG fighter jets at five government schools, subject to certain conditions. The recently decommissioned MiG-21 aircraft will be displayed at prominent Schools of Eminence (SoE) in Ludhiana, Amritsar, Ferozepur, Nangal, and Kharar.

Confirming the development, Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said that the schools would have to meet specific criteria, including being senior secondary level institutions with at least 2,000 students, and would be responsible for maintaining the airframes.

Bains added that the formalities were being worked out and the designated schools would have the MiG jets soon. The minister stated that the Punjab Government had planned to collaborate with IAF for ceremonial deployment events at these schools to foster a spirit of excellence and dedication among the students, while also igniting patriotism and inspiring their dreams.

Last month, Bains had written to Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, as part of his request, stating, “Together, we can create a living tribute to the MiG-21 and ignite the spirit of service and patriotism in our future generations.” He proposed five locations for the display of the decommissioned MiG-21 fighter jets: Ludhiana, Amritsar, Ferozepur, Khaur, and Nangal.
