IKGPTU to get Registrar after 6 years

If the entire process is completed smoothly, IK Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU) will fill the vacant post of its Registrar next month after a gap of six years.
The university, which was set up in 1997 and primarily functions as the examination body for technical courses in the state, will also get its first Controller of Examination. For several years, the charge has remained with Deputy Controller of Examination Paramjit Singh.
The post of Registrar fell vacant in January 2014, when then Registrar Dr HS Bains left the campus. The post has been advertised a few times, but the process was never completed.
Dr Sukhbir Singh Walia, who is the officiating Registrar, has also the officiating Finance Officer for the past three months. Prior to Dr Walia, Dr Amanpreet Singh, who is Director Distance Education, held the charge as Registrar.
Now, as the recruitment process has restarted, the university has decided to hold an aptitude test for filling senior positions, including that of Registrar and Controller of Examination. The one-hour aptitude tests for the posts are scheduled for February 4 followed by presentations and interviews.
In 2013-14, prominent academician Suresh Tandon, who was also the vice-chairman of the Punjab School Education Board, served as the Controller of Examination. Owing to some controversies, the state government had experimented by appointing PCS officer Sarojini Gautam Sharda as the Registrar in 2007.
Dr Walia has had to double up as the university’s Finance Officer as Dr SK Mishra has been on deputation since February 2018 as Registrar of Dr BR Ambedkar NIT, Jalandhar.
Notably, other key positions in the university are also handled by officers with an officiating charge. Many Dean-level positions have been lying vacant from several years. Dean (Academics) Dr Buta Singh had left the university in 2017. Dean (Planning and Development) Dr NP Singh had retired in August 2019. The charge of officiating Dean (Academics) is with Dr Balkar Singh.
Dr Ajay Sharma, IKGPTU VC, confirmed that the recruitment process was in progress.
