In the wake of a hooch tragedy in Amritsar district that claimed several lives, the health authorities here have acted for the first time in nearly two years and lifted four liquor samples from licensed vends for testing. “The samples have been sent to the Punjab State Public Health Laboratory, Kharar, for analysis. The test results are expected within two weeks,” the District Health Officer said.
3 arrested under NDPS Act
The police have arrested three persons and seized 67 gm of narcotic powder from them. SSP Gulneet Singh Khurana said cases under the NDPS Act had been registered against all three. He said a team of the Morinda Sadar police station arrested Mandeep Singh of Roni Kala village, Amandeep Singh of Ganguwal and Davinder Singh of Lodhipur village.
Biker held with heroin
The police seized 295 gm heroin from a biker, identified as Kirpal Singh Pala of Chandiwala village in Ferozepur. It is believed that he had come to Abohar to supply the contraband to someone. A case has been registered. Another police team seized 25 kg poppy husk on searching a car near a link road. Pawandeep Singh and Vinod Kumar of Sangria in Rajasthan were held in connection with the case.
