In connection with irregularities in printing of registration certificates and driving licences, the Transport Department has issued a show-cause notice to Deputy State Transport Commissioner Manjit Singh and suspended a senior assistant in his office, Pawan Kumar. The services of a data-entry operator and eight security personnel were terminated. The officials involved in printing of the documents were allegedly accepting bribe from applicants.
80 drug peddlers held during police raids
The police conducted raids on 381 locations on Monday leading to the arrest of 80 drug smugglers after registration of 57 FIRs across the state. The police seized 255-gm heroin, 1,218 intoxicant pills and vials and Rs 10,760 drug money. With this, the number of drug smugglers arrested under the war against drugs campaign has reached 23,726 in 149 days.
Bajwa pushes for Australian consulate in Chandigarh
Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly Partap Singh Bajwa held meetings with prominent Australian Members of Parliament in Canberra on Monday. Bajwa met Julian Hill MP, Australia’s Assistant Minister for Citizenship, Customs and Multicultural Affairs and Assistant Minister for International Education, along with MP Jason Wood and MP Mary Doyle. Bajwa called for the setting up of an Australian Consulate in Chandigarh, saying it would benefit thousands of Punjabis who travel to Australia for education and work.
