Amid the heightened security in the state to ensure peaceful celebrations of the Independence Day, the Punjab Police on Friday conducted a cordon and search operation at 151 railway stations. The operation was carried out in all 28 police districts simultaneously from 11 am to 2 pm on the directions of Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav.
Special DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla said at least 72 people were rounded up for questioning. TNS
Dug peddler hurt in crossfire, arrested
Jagraon: A team of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force arrested an alleged drug peddler, Davinder Singh, alias Babbu, of Akkuwal, after a search operation at Gorsian Khan Mohammad village under the jurisdiction of the Sidhwan Kalan police station. He was injured during the cross fire. Kingpin Sunny Singh, Kuldeep Singh Keepa and other accomplices fled the spot. A case has been registered. OC
Four nabbed with heroin, sedative pills in Muktsar
Muktsar: The district police on Friday claimed to have arrested two drug smugglers in possession of 500-gm heroin. The accused were identified as Mandeep Singh and Happy, both residents of Bathinda. A case has been registered. Meanwhile, two persons — Mayank Chauhan of Delhi and Ajay Singh Rawat of Ludhiana — were arrested for possessing 10,000 sedative pills. TNS
No sale of bricks from August 11-15
Fatehgarh Sahib: The Brick Kiln Owners Association in a meeting on Friday discussed the difficulties being faced by the industry and expressed concern over the government’s alleged anti-industry policies. It was decided that all kiln owners of the state would not sell bricks from August 11 to 15. If the government did not pay attention to their problem, the kilns would be closed for an indefinite period from September 1. OC

Jalandhar: Reacting to the US decision to impose 50% tariff on Indian imports, Rajya Sabha member Ashok Mittal has sent out an open letter to US President Donald Trump, urging him to replace confrontation with constructive dialogue.
