In khoya, gajrela, another sweet gesture for farmers
Mansa, January 5
Residents of Talwandi Aklia village in Mansa district have prepared ‘khoya’ and ‘gajrela’ in large quantities for farmers agitating at the Tikri border. While dairy owners contributed milk, confectioners prepared the dessert free of cost.
A member of the Punjab Kisan Union (PKU) from the village came up with the idea of preparing home-cooked sweets for the agitating farmers. As much as 17 quintals of milk was used for making ‘khoya’ and four quintals of carrots were used for preparing ‘gajrela’.
Everyone from the village contributed to the cause. While one group grated the carrots, others cooked.
Deep Singh Kali, PKU president of the village unit, said, “After the idea was proposed by one of the members, we immediately acquired the items required for making ‘khoya’ and ‘gajrela’. This will not only boost the morale of the agitating farmers, but will also strengthen the brotherly bond we share with them. — TNS
