India in touch with Qatar over return of 2 ‘swaroops’ of Guru Granth Sahib
New Delhi, August 23
The Ministry of External Affairs on Friday said it had taken up with the Qatar government the issue of the return of two 'swaroops' of Guru Granth Sahib seized by the authorities in the West Asian country.
"One swaroop was returned by the Qatari authorities and we have been assured that the other swaroop has been kept with respect," MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.
Jaiswal said: “We have seen reports regarding the ‘swaroops’ of Guru Granth Sahib being seized by the Qatari authorities.
“The matter has been taken up with Qatar and our embassy has apprised the Sikh community in Doha of the developments.”
"Two ‘swaroops’ of Guru Granth Sahib were taken by the Qatari authorities from two individuals/groups who were accused of running a religious establishment without the government’s approval," the MEA said.
