Muktsar, January 21
The Bariwala police have booked the directors of Mumbai-based Supreme Infrastructure India Limited, which had got the contract to widen the Muktsar-Kotkapura highway, for allegedly committing a fraud of Rs 2.63 crore with a Pathankot-based sand and gravel supplier firm.
In his complaint to the police, Nipun Mahajan alleged that Vikas Bhawani and Vikram Bhawani, directors of Supreme Infrastructure India Limited, had received sand and gravel from his firm from 2014 to 2016 for Rs 7.67 crore, but paid only Rs 5.03 crore. “Despite our repeated requests and correspondence, the company has not paid the outstanding amount of Rs 2.63 crore. Now, we have filed a complaint againt them and a case has been registered,” said Nipun Mahajan, while speaking to The Tribune over the phone.
Notably, the company, which is charging toll on this highway, has also failed in constructing new bridges on the Rajasthan feeder and Sirhind feeder canals. “Finally, the state government issued a show-cause notice to the company directors asking why their contract of road-widening project should not be cancelled,” said Satish Goyal, executive engineer, National Highway, Public Works Department (PWD), Ferozepur district.
He said earlier a toll road near Nabha had been taken over from the company by the state government.
