Five days after an unknown man attempted to dupe a businessman in Kotkapura posing as the Vidhan Sabha Speaker, the police have arrested the accused.

Bhalinder Singh, 35, is an IT graduate from Mohali. He has been languishing in Hoshiarpur jail for past 11 months. He is facing 13 fraud cases at different places in the state. He was brought to Faridkot from Hoshiarpur jail on a production warrant today.

Recently, he had cheated a person in Fatehgarh Sahib, posing as a ruling party MLA. He also duped another person at Tanda in Hoshiarpur.

According to a police complaint, Rajan Kumar Jain, the businessman, claimed that the accused, posing as Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan, made a WhatsApp call to a Kotkapura-based business and tried to dupe him of Rs 27,543. Jain brought the matter to the Speaker’s notice. Subsequently, a complaint was filed with the police.
