Instagram affair leads to murder: Woman, lover arrested for husband’s killing

The Kapurthala police on Thursday uncovered the mystery of blind murder of a Phulowal resident, who had been brutally attacked by unidentified assailants on his way to work. During the investigation, the police found that Lakhwinder Singh’s wife, Tamanna, and her lover, Kuldeep Kumar, had hatched a plot to kill him. The two had met on Instagram about a year ago and had been in a romantic relationship since then.

Under SSP Gaurav Tura, along with SP Investigation Sarabjit Rai, DSP SD Deep Karan Singh, DSP Detective Parminder Singh, and a team of officers, including Inspector Jarnail Singh (In-Charge, CIA Staff Kapurthala) and Kripal Singh, chief officer, Thana Sadar, Kapurthala, the police solved the murder mystery.

On the evening of January 12, around 7.30 pm, Lakhwinder was attacked near the cremation ground of Danwind village on his way to work. The assailants struck him on his head with a stick. Based on the statement of Lakhwinder’s brother Balwinder Singh, an FIR was registered on January 13 under Sections 126(2), 118(1), 3(5) of the BNS at the Kotwali police station in Kapurthala against the unidentified assailants.

Lakhwinder succumbed to his injuries on January 14 at Guru Nanak Hospital in Amritsar, prompting the case to be upgraded to a murder investigation under Sections 103 and 61(2) of the BNS.

The investigation revealed that Tamanna and Kuldeep had planned the murder to be together. Kuldeep had expressed his desire to marry Tamanna, but only if Lakhwinder Singh was “out of the picture”.

Tamanna and Kuldeep were arrested on January 15. The police also found that Kuldeep had three previous cases against him, including charges of theft.
