Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu on Friday said it was deeply painful to see the people of Punjab suffer through a crisis that was entirely avoidable. In his first public statement after returning from abroad, Sidhu described the Punjab floods as a “man-made disaster” and blamed both the Centre and the AAP government for failing to prevent these.

He asserted that Punjab's rivers, once a blessing, had become a curse due to gross mismanagement. "This is not destiny, it is a man-made disaster and a government failure," he wrote, adding that while politicians fed their greed, Punjab continued to suffer.

Sidhu alleged that the current crisis stemmed from chronic mismanagement of river systems and systemic governance failure. He cited illegal mining and unchecked siltation as major contributing factors to the floods.
