Jail warden held with mobile sets, SIM cards
Ferozepur, February 20
The police today nabbed a warden posted in the Central Jail for allegedly trying to supply mobile phones to inmates.
Barinder Singh Gill, DSP (City), said the accused was identified as Constable Gurmeet Singh (40) who had been posted on jail duty. The constable was recruited in 2017 and had completed three years of service. When the warden came back on duty today, three mobiles, five SIM cards, two charges and two headphones were recovered from him during frisking. Though he tried to escape from the spot, the jail security overpowered him and handed him over to the police.
“During preliminary investigation, the accused admitted that he was going to supply these mobile phones, SIM cards and other material to a jail inmate identified as Amrik Singh who had been serving sentence in an NDPS case,” the DSP said. — OC
