In a series of coordinated operations targeting street crime, Jalandhar rural police dismantled organised criminal networks involved in highway robberies, vehicle thefts, and inter-district crimes. The operations resulted in the arrest of six suspects, the recovery of six stolen vehicles, 15 mobile phones and the seizure of deadly weapons.

Speaking to mediapersons, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh stated that specialised teams were deployed across all sub-divisions of Jalandhar Rural, under the supervision of DSP-rank officers and the overall guidance of SP Investigation Jasroop Kaur Bath. These initiatives led to significant success in curbing street crime in the region.

In the first operation, Phillaur Police, led by DSP Phillaur Sarwan Singh Bal, arrested two highway robbers Balwinder Ram and Briju, who had been targeting commuters with sharp weapons.

Three stolen motorcycles and three mobile phones were recovered. An accomplice, identified as Sunny alias Baba, remains on the run. An FIR (No. 123) under various sections of the BNS Act was registered. The second operation targeted an inter-district theft gang operating across Jalandhar, Kapurthala and Ludhiana. Under DSP Bal’s supervision, a team from Guraya Police Station arrested three members of the gang Mangat Ram alias Manga, Sunil Kumar alias CP and Sarabjit Kumar alias Sabi.

The gang had attacked truck driver Vijay Kumar on December 5, 2024, and robbed him. Police recovered 12 stolen mobile phones and an unregistered motorcycle.

An FIR was filed at Guraya Police Station.

The third operation, led by SHO Kartarpur at a police checkpoint, resulted in the arrest of Nirvair Singh, who confessed to stealing a white scooter and a motorcycle, among other crimes. Two stolen vehicles were recovered from his possession. Singh, a habitual offender, had a prior theft case registered against him under relevant sections of the BNS Act.

SSP Khakh praised the efforts of the police teams, stating that these operations delivered a significant blow to organised crime in the region.

“This serves as a clear warning to those involved in criminal activities, cease now or face severe consequences,” SSP Khakh warned.

The arrested individuals are currently in police custody and will be produced in court.

The authorities will seek their remand for further interrogation to uncover their criminal networks.
