Jalandhar to be my second capital: Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann

Jalandhar, July 24
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday said Jalandhar was now his government’s second capital after Chandigarh. The CM said this on the sidelines of his first public interaction with people from across Majha and Doaba at his rented house in Jalandhar held under the banner of ‘Bhagwant Mann sarkar tuhade dwar’ event.
Mann said: “Just as the Viceroys during the British era used to have more than one capital, I have chosen to keep Jalandhar as my second capital to be closer to one half of Punjab. My Jalandhar house will work as my camp office or more like my mini-secretariat.”
The CM also directed the Jalandhar bureaucracy to ensure that his camp office was functional even on days when he would not be here. DC Dr Himanshu Aggarwal proposed that the CM’s Field Officer would be deputed at the camp office on a daily basis.
Among those who had come to take up their issue with the CM was Paramjit Singh, a realtor from Phagwara. “As a union leader of property dealers, I want to remind the CM that he had announced it in February that NOC would not be required at the time of registry of properties but it is yet to be implemented in the tehsils”.
Likewise, Balwinder Singh, who had come from Khemkaran, said: “There is a 66KV power line of the BBMB passing atop our houses. The line does not carry electricity now but the redundant wire mesh is still not removed. Owing to this, we have not been able to do any vertical construction at our houses. We have been repeatedly taking it up with the PSPCL, but to no avail.”
Mann, who had camped for about 18 days in the city during the recent Jalandhar West bypoll, returned today after almost two weeks.
