Gurdaspur jawan Gurpreet Singh cremated with military honours
Gurdaspur, January 13
The mortal remains of Gurpreet Singh, a 24-year-old Gunner of the 18 Rashtriya Rifles, were consigned to flames with military honours at his village, Bhaini Khadir, in Kahnuwan block of the district today.
Officials said Gunner Gurpreet Singh’s body was retrieved after he slipped to death in the Gulmarg sector while on an operation near the LoC in J&K’s Baramulla district.
Shaheed Sainik Parivar Suraksha Parishad general secretary Kunwar Ravinder Singh Vicky said Gurpreet was originally inducted into the Regiment of Artillery. “He is survived by his mother Lakhwinder Kaur. The Army man was to get married in April,” Vicky added.
Gurpreet’s body was flown from Jammu and Kashmir to Pathankot, after which it was brought to the Tibri cantonment near Gurdaspur. Tibri cantonment officers were present in strength at the cremation. From the state government, Cabinet Minister Kudeep Singh Dhaliwal was present at the event. DC Himanshu Aggarwal, SSP Harish Dayama, SDM Amandeep Kaur Ghuman and SP Navjot Singh Sandhu of the district administration also attended the last rites.
