Ferozepur: An Army jawan from Lohke Kalan village reportedly succumbed to a heart attack. He was posted near Indo-China border. The victim has been identified as Sepoy Kuldeep Singh. His elder brother Ranjit Singh said: “Day before yesterday, Kuldeep spoke to the family members. Woman held with ‘chitta’

Sangrur: The Sunam police have arrested a woman and seized 75-gram ‘chitta’ from her. Sub-Inspector Veerpal Kaur said they arrested Rani from Sunam and seized 75-gm chitta from her. “Another accused, Deepak Kumar, is on the run and will be nabbed soon,” Kaur said. Seminar on ‘Baal Mitra’

Muktsar: To create friendly relations between the police and students, Muktsar police have been organising seminars under the ‘Baal Mitra’ programme. Contractual staff up in arms

Bathinda: The contractual staff working in the Forest Department raised slogans against the government over non-payment of salaries. Jaspal Singh, chief, Forest Workers’ Union, said: “The workers have not received their pay for the past over four months. Even workers at Bir Talab Mini Zoo have not received salaries. Many workers are finding it difficult to bear household expenses.” Divisional Forest Officer Swaranjit Singh said, “We have not received funds from the head office. After March, funds usually get delayed, but they are expected to be provided soon.” TNS

16 PPS officers moved to VB

Chandigarh: A total of 16 PPS officers have been moved to the Vigilance Bureau. A spokesman said Ravinderpal Singh, SP (Headquarters), Mohali, has been posted as SSP Vigilance, Ludhiana. Jagat Preet Singh, ADCP (Investigations), Ludhiana, has been posted as SSP Vigilance, Patiala Range. Vikas Sabharwal, has been posted as SP, Anti-Corruption Action Line. Besides, 13 DSP-rank officers have been posted at the VB headquarters in Mohali.
