Army jawan succumbs to 'heart attack'

Ferozepur: An Army jawan from Lohke Kalan village reportedly succumbed to a heart attack. He was posted near Indo-China border. The victim has been identified as Sepoy Kuldeep Singh. His elder brother Ranjit Singh said: “Day before yesterday, Kuldeep spoke to the family members. We received the news regarding his death on July 10, which also happened to be his birthday.” Kuldeep was married three years ago and has a son. OC

Woman held with ‘chitta’

Sangrur: The Sunam police have arrested a woman and seized 75-gram ‘chitta’ from her. Sub-Inspector Veerpal Kaur said they arrested Rani from Sunam and seized 75-gm chitta from her. “Another accused, Deepak Kumar, is on the run and will be nabbed soon,” Kaur said. Seminar on ‘Baal Mitra’

Contractual staff up in arms

Bathinda: The contractual staff working in the Forest Department raised slogans against the government over non-payment of salaries. Jaspal Singh, chief, Forest Workers’ Union, said: “The workers have not received their pay for the past over four months. Even workers at Bir Talab Mini Zoo have not received salaries. Many workers are finding it difficult to bear household expenses.” Divisional Forest Officer Swaranjit Singh said, “We have not received funds from the head office. After March, funds usually get delayed, but they are expected to be provided soon.” TNS
