Sangrur, July 13
Members of the Unemployed BEd and TET Pass Union and the police scuffled near the residence of the Chief Minister here today. The protesters tried to break police barricades to gherao the CM’s residence, but the police foiled their repeated attempts, leading to heated arguments between both sides. The situation remained tense for more than an hour.
“Our main demand is that the government should increase the posts of Punjabi and Hindi teachers. But like previous governments, the present AAP government has also been trying to silence us with sticks,” said Sandeep Singh, state committee member of union.
“Cops hit our members with sticks and our four members have suffered injuries,” alleged Sukhwinder Singh, another member of the union.
Sangrur DSP (Rural) Sukhwinderpal Singh said, “After the protesters pushed our cops, we also tried to prevent their entry into the colony.” After their meeting was fixed with the authorities on July 19, protesters ended their agitation.
