Members of the ETT and TET Pass Union today broke through the police barricading and protested in support of their demands near the local residence of Punjab Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla.
“We broke past the barricading as the Punjab Government has failed to act on our long-pending demand for government jobs,” said Sandeep Singh, senior vice-president of the union.
Their main demands include recruitment of at least 10,000 ETT and TET teachers and hiring of only ETT teachers on ETT posts.
The union members have been staging an indefinite protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office since January 4. Besides, their two members have protesting on a mobile tower in Patiala. Last year, the jobless teachers had ended their indefinite protest owing to the pandemic.
“We ended our protest near the minister’s residence after the administration gave us a letter promising a meeting with the minister on May 24. However, our indefinite protest will continue,” said Deep Banrasi, press secretary of the union.
