Kabaddi player shot at by two bike-borne men in Moga village

Two unidentified armed men shot at a kabaddi player in Dhudkot Ransingh village in Moga district today. The injured has been identified as Harvinder Singh (32), who was later admitted to a hospital in Ludhiana.

As per information, two miscreants reached Harvinder’s house on a motorcycle around quarter to seven. The pillion rider had a cage of pigeons in his hand. When Harbinder’s mother came out after hearing knocking on the gate, one of them told her that one of their pigeons was with her son and she should call him. At first the mother asked him to leave, saying that Harbinder was asleep and he should come later, but on his insistence she woke up her son. As soon as Harbinder came out, one of the assailants fired a shot at him, which hit him in the leg.

Harbinder managed to close the door. When his mother raised an alarm, the attackers fled the spot. Their bike was without a registration plate.

Later, the family members took Harbinder to Moga Medicity Hospital, from where he was referred to Ludhiana DMC, where his condition is said to be stable.

Shortly after the attack, a youth of the same village, Jagdeep Singh Dhaliwal alias Jaggu, went live on his Facebook account and took responsibility for the attack. Jaggu is currently living in Canada. Villagers said as long as he was living in the village, he often got involved in fights.

Harbinder had been reportedly telling villagers that he would contest the sarpanch election from Aam Aadmi Party in the upcoming panchayat elections, which some villagers said could be the reason for the attack.

On receiving information, police from Nihal Singh Wala police station reached the spot. After some time, SSP J Elanchejian also reached there. The SSP said they had the CCTV footage and Jaggu would be named in the case and action taken against him.

Harbinder is said to be an experienced pigeon player and two months ago he had returned as champion in the pigeon flying competition held in Raikot town of Ludhiana district.
