Around 3.30 pm, the four assailants, who were roaming around in the city, saw Tejpal and his brother. They had an old enmity with Tejpal and had earlier had a fight.

On Friday, they had a heated argument which turned into a fight. Then, the assailants shot Tejpal in the chest, killing him on the spot. They then drove away in their car.

SSP Gupta revealed that the police identified three out of the four assailants and a murder case was being registered against them. Gupta said that it was not a gang war. While the victim did not have a criminal record, assailant Kala had cases of liquor smuggling registered against him.

There is a hospital near the murder site and CCTV cameras are installed outside it. However, when the police went to check the CCTV footage, they discovered that the hospital cameras were not working at the time of the incident.

After the incident, Jagraon MLA Sarabjit Kaur Manuke went to Tejpal's house and assured the family that justice would be done with the family.
