Ferozepur: Kamboj community leaders pitch for 27% share in ticket allocation

In an apparent ‘show of strength’ ahead of the impending Lok Sabha polls, the leaders from Kamboj community, converged here today in large numbers to participate in ‘Kamboj Bhaichara Maha Sammelan’ and staked their claim for the nomination of candidates from their community in three Lok Sabha segments.

Prominent faces from Kamboj community from all over Punjab, including Jalalabad MLA Jagdip Singh Goldy Kamboj, former MLA from Rajpura Hardial Singh Kamboj, Chairman Punjab Agro Shaminder Singh Khinda, former Verka director Gurbhej Singh Tibbi, AAP Fazilka president Malkit Singh Thind, former Sessions Judge Parminder Singh and several others reached Golu Ka Mour village to attend the rally.

On this occasion, the community leaders demanded 27 per cent quota for ticket aspirants belonging to their community in panchayat, Vidhan Sabha and Lok Sabha polls. “If anyone from our community gets ticket, we all will ensure his victory,” said Shaminder Singh Khinda.

It is pertinent to mention here that Kamboj community has considerable presence in the state, and form a major chunk of the vote share in this Lok Sabha constituency. As per data available, out of around 16 lakh voters in Ferozepur Lok Sabha Assembly, over 2.5 lakh voters are from this community.

While addressing the congregation, Hardial Singh Kamboj said time has come when the people from ‘Kamboj biradari’ should get united keeping aside their own political differences, if any. He said that major share of votes in Lok Sabha constituencies of Anandpur Sahib, Patiala and Ferozepur belonged to their community.

MLA Jagdip Singh Goldy Kamboj said he will apprise the government regarding the problems being faced by the community and will ensure their active participation in the grievances redressal system. “We are working for recognition of martyr Udham Singh who belonged to Kamboj community, as a ‘National martyr’,” said Goldy.

Shaminder Singh Khinda urged the community to stay united in the future. “If we stay united, we can not only ensure our victory, but can also play decisive role in overall electoral prospects,” he added.

On this occasion, Bhagwan Singh, Advocate Bilalwal Handa, Advocate Ashok Shama, Advocate Gurjit Singh Kaura, Parminder Singh Thind, Sukhwinder Singh Kaka Kamboj, Daulat Ram Kamboj, Jagdish Thind, Satpal Thind and others were also present.
