Kanungo assn urges PM to hold talks with farmers

As the indefinite fast by Jagjit Singh Dallewal entered Day 27, the agitation by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-political) received a shot in the arm with activists of the Revenue Kanungo Association announcing to wear black badges on Monday as a token of solidarity with the farmers protesting for their rights.

While praying for the healthy life of 70- year-old Dallewal, staking his life for rights of small and marginal farmers, the association has also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take immediate steps to hold discussions with the farmers and farm labourers.

Harvir Singh Dhindsa, chief, Revenue Kanungo Association, said, “It is high time when the Centre led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi should comprehend that farmers and farm labourers have helped India tackle famines but now they have to hold dharnas.”

Recollecting history of agitations launched by revenue officials in the past, Dhindsa claimed that on multiple occasions, patwaris and kanungos had withdrawn their agitations on the appeals of farm unions as both (revenue officials and farmers) were interlinked.
