Budding hockey players were thrilled to meet hockey Olympian SSP Gagan Ajit Singh at the subdivision-level hockey tournament held in Amargarh. The event was part of Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan, a state-wide initiative promoting sports and awareness about drug abuse among youth.
Nankana Sahib Public School in Rampur Chhanna and Sher-e-Punjab Hockey Club Amargarh emerged as winners and runners-up, respectively. SP (H) Swaranjit Kaur and DSP Amargarh Davinder Singh Sandhu chaired various sessions, while SSP Gagan Ajit Singh was the chief guest.
MLA Jaswant Singh Gajjanmajra’s son Rubal Gajjanmajra, sports promoter Nisar Mohammad, MD Swaranjit Singh, and Sarabjit Singh Gogi felicitated the winning teams and outstanding performers.
According to SHO Gurpreet Kaur, convener of the event, district police supervised by SSP Gagan Ajit Singh organised sports events at Malerkotla, Ahmedgarh and Amargarh. Similar events were held earlier under DSP Manavjit Singh Sidhu and DSP Kuldeep Singh’s supervision.
SSP Singh emphasised the importance of sportsmanship in lifestyle, urging parents to encourage their children to participate in sports.
